eLearning Africa 2009

This year's eLearning Africa conference takes place in Dakar, Senegal during the last week of May. eLA is the largest gathering of eLearning and distance education professionals in Africa and is the key networking venue for practitioners and professionals from Africa and all over the world. SPIDER will be participating at the two-day conference and also be part of the pre-conference workshops.

At the conference SPIDER is responsible for arranging a pre-conference workshop about the usage of mobile phones for teaching and learning.

At the pre-conference workshop Mrs. Annika Andersson and Mr. Rizvee Bhuyan will demonstrate how the Bangladesh Virtual Interactive Classroom (BVIC) system works by using their mobile phones and a laptop as server. In the same workshop Mr. Bengt Nykvist and Dr. Jabiri Bakari will demo the use of mobile phones for teaching and learning in a pilot course run by the Open University of Tanzania (OUT).

During the conference sessions, Mr. Nykvist and Dr. Bakari will present further regarding the project for "Enhancement of In-Service Teachers Training Programme Through Mobile Phones in Tanzania".

Mrs. Eva Lindén, Nyköpings Folkhögskola, Sweden and Mr. John Stephen Oluoch, Cordio East Africa, Kenya will present findings from the project Empowering SHGs in Kenya and India through ICT for better education and alternative livelihood opportunities on the topic "Empowering Women Groups in Kenya: ICT for Education and Promotion of Livelihood".

Mr. Henrik Hansson from the Dept. of Computer and Systems Sciences, The Royal Institute of Technology and Stockholm University, will moderate and hold a presentation during the session "One-To-One Computing Visions and Experiences".

Ms. Annelie Östlund from the SPIDER staff will also be attending the conference.
